The thought-provoking artwork Mrs. Meta Meta was presented at “Failure.”

The best way to handle digital consumerism,
Presented by Annie Chen Xiao

Coming from China, Annie Chen Xiao is happy to launch her latest project Microsoft. Meta meta Failure, a group exhibition presented by Ejecta Projects. According to Annie, failures usually represent negative errors such as a moral deficiency, a material miscalculation or someone’s failure. But the success of a studio practice can be achieved by taking potential risks to redefine conceptual boundaries and creativity. This exhibition considers how failures in video, drawing, painting, etc. are perceived and successfully reflected.

Annie believes that the value of beauty should not be defined by the Internet. As the number of beauty bloggers and influencers increases, they are simultaneously recognized as a trend that should be followed. And over the past few years various cosmetic and plastic surgery treatments have popped up everywhere.

“It simply came to our notice then. It is up to us to decide who we are. The blind pursuit of this so-called “trend” will actually hurt us, “Annie noted.” What people are following is a product of this digital big data age. This passively formed pattern is forcing us to accept it and that is why I created it Microsoft. Meta meta

Microsoft. Meta meta A series of satirical videos in the style of the trendy YouTube video tutorial, led by Annie’s Sassy Social Media Alter Ego, Mrs. Meta Meta. The protagonist is promoting a facial cream that can lead to acne scars and blemishes, the only beauty standard in this virtual utopia, imitating these YouTubers and beauty bloggers in a satirical way. The videos include a skincare daily routine and an interview Microsoft. Meta meta Responds to people’s skepticism about its aesthetic principles.

Annie questions the quality of the beauty that has been around for a long time, and through this project you have come up with the idea of being perfect. Microsoft. Meta meta Social media takes on the language of the beauty industry in the form of digital beauty filters and image manipulations, distorting the notions of beauty and beauty routines run by influential people and criticizing digital consumerism and harmful world beauty standards by promising its perfection.

“We, especially our girls, need to understand that the flaws themselves are priceless,” Annie said, “because that’s what sets us apart. That’s what makes us beautiful and unique. I want people to reconsider whether they really want to after seeing it.” Microsoft. Meta meta

Microsoft. Meta meta Participated in an exhibition organized by Ejecta Projects, a non-profit organization of artists who explored works of art due to frustration or failure while creating. Annie thinks the project represents a failed concept that depicts an illusion of beauty and deliberately creates a special effect on the green screen in an imperfect way to ignore this feature.

Annie focuses on the social environment and the relationship between people, which is reflected in all her writings that discuss identity and self-awareness. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, Annie is professionally proficient in photography and videography. It is hoped that he will continue to bring more valuable creations to the public eye in the future.
