Britney Griner pleads guilty to drug charges in Russian court
On August 4, the court found Griner guilty of drug possession and trafficking and also found that he committed the crime with intent. In addition to the nine-year sentence, he received a fine of 1 million rubles ($16,000) for knowing drug smuggling and possession.
The decision was announced after closing arguments, during which Russian prosecutors asked for Griner’s nine-and-a-half-year prison sentence for possession of marijuana.
In February, Britney was Arrested in Moscow Local authorities said they found vape cartridges containing cannabis oil among his belongings.

On July 4, Britney wrote a letter to the president Joe BidenWrote that he was “scared I could stay here forever.”
“I understand you’re dealing with a lot, but please Don’t forget about me and other American prisoners,” she wrote in the letter, which was obtained by E! the news “Please do whatever you can to bring us home. I voted for the first time in 2020 and I voted for you. I have faith in you. I still have a lot of good work to do with my freedom that you can help restore. I miss my wife! I feel my family!
